Annabel LaBrecque

Hi, I’m Annabel, and I’m a historian with hope.

I focus on the connections between past and present for Cracked & Golden.

I believe historians have a responsibility to use our knowledge of the past to help solve problems of the present. I’m an academic scholar by trade and training, but my work is rooted in a commitment to supporting social justice issues and those who fight to achieve them. I want to use history to help people and repair harms that manifest themselves in our classrooms, our communities and society-at-large.

“History,” said Maya Angelou, “despite its wrenching pain, cannot be unlived, however, if faced with courage, need not be lived again.” Painful histories inform our present moment. Engaging these histories requires conviction, critical reflection and courage. I’ll show you why our engagement with the past is essential to taking action and inspiring change now. I’ll show you how you can make a difference.

History, after all, is made by choices. The choices we make today will be tomorrow’s history. Let’s make the right ones – together.

Take action: Make history with me.
